چکیده

Protein adsorption at inorganic surfaces is highly relevant to nanoand bionanotechnology. Just two examples of great significance are the use of specific peptide sequences to control cell deposition on tissue scaffolds, and the tethering of bio-photosynthetic reaction centers on electrodes to harvest light for power generation and hydrogen production. Understanding of the behavior of proteins in such situations and the design of surface-binding proteins for technological applications is currently limited by the largely empirical approaches used. We are, therefore, developing the application of molecular modeling to the elucidation of the behavior of peptides at fluid/solid interfaces – in this talk, we will provide details of these models and their application to the study of peptides at fluid/solid interfaces and their de novo rational design.

Physicochemical Determinants of Antimicrobial Activity

Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) are lately receiving significant attention as targets for antibacterial drug research. While many machine learning techniques are shown effective for AMP recognition, their utility for the rational design of novel AMP-based drugs in the wet laboratory is questionable. In this paper we seek to elucidate determinants of antimicrobial activity in a well-studied class ...

Knowledge-based Design of Inorganic-binding Peptides

How proteins/peptides bind to and recognize the inorganic materials with different affinities and specificities has primary importance in biomineralization, hard tissue regeneration (e.g., bone and dental tissues) and making practical materials using synthetic peptides as nucleators, growth modifiers or as control agents [1-4]. The understanding of the possible mechanism(s) of inorganic formati...
